Work on the Victoria’s new Royal Children’s Hospital has commenced with Premier John Brumby and Health Minister Daniel Andrews turning the first sod on Monday 17th December 2007.

The new $1 billion Royal Children’s Hospital will be a major landmark project which will combine an iconic design with world-class health facilities.

The successful consortium responsible for Designing, Building, Financing and Maintaining the new hospital is the Children’s Health Partnership which comprises Babcock & Brown as sponsors, Bovis Lend Lease as Builder and Spotless Group as Facilities Manager. The Consortium is also supported by architects, Billard Leece, Bates Smart & HKS.

As part of the Bovis Lend Lease team, A.G. Coombs Pty Ltd is currently finalising the contract documents in relation to the HVAC and Mechanical Services component of this prestigious project.

A.G. Coombs Pty Ltd, together with A.E. Smith & Son Pty Ltd, are pleased to confirm that we have executed a Memorandum of Understanding in relation to forming a Joint Venture for the delivery of the HVAC and Mechanical Services associated with the core hospital component of this large redevelopment project.

This Joint Venture brings together the combined strength and unique resources of two (2) of Australia’s most trusted and respected HVAC specialist companies who have extensive relevant experience in both large healthcare projects and the delivery of Green Star outcomes.

AE Smith sponsor The 2007 ISIS Bone Growth Foundation Tennis Challenge
13 Dec 2007, Vodafone Arena, Melbourne

It was back to the electrifying ‘80s at Vodafone Arena with 700 guests enjoying an evening of tennis centric entertainment at the fourth annual ISIS Bone Growth Foundation Tennis Challenge on 13th December.

The event brings together a guest list of industry contacts in support of the
Bone Growth Foundation.

For the fourth consecutive year, the event generated in excess of $120,000 for the Bone Growth Foundation. The money will be used to fund new research into bone growth – research that aims to find better, less painful treatments for children affected by crippling growth problems.

The celebrity tennis match was a highlight of this unique event which features fine dining and entertainment positioned on the perimeter of an arena-level tennis court. Davis Cup captain and charity patron John Fitzgerald hit the court in an 80’s grudge match against teammate Wally Masur, both resplendent in fashionable ‘80s style tennis kit and mullet hairdos. Fitzgerald and Masur were joined by former ATP players, Andrew Florent and Paul Kilderry.

Led by Channel 7’s Andrew Daddo as the MC, Todd Woodbridge swapped his traditional tennis-playing role with that of an umpire, performing his duties with exceptional enthusiasm and fondness for the microphone. In fact, in a tennis first, the players had to ask for ‘quiet please’ from the match umpire.
