building, environmental & energy management systems
access control, CCTV & remote monitoring systems

Australian Synchrotron

The only synchrotron in Australia and only one of two in the southern hemisphere, the Australian Synchrotron is a large machine that creates beams of laser-like light. These beams of synchrotron light are essential tools for science and industry to investigate the molecular structure of things.

Integrated Facility 1st/AE Smith solution:

Needless to say, temperature control is essential! Facility 1st and AE Smith delivered a solution using 70+ Auto-Matrix controllers and 40+ VAVs to maintain and monitor power systems and usage as well as perform other tasks essential to the synchrotron's operation.

Herald & Weekly Times

The Herald & Weekly Times (H&WT) printing facility prints 28 different publications that includes The Herald Sun and The Australian newspapers. In one week, their facility will print 11-12 million publications, approximately 71,000 publications every hour!

Integrated Facility 1st/AE Smith solution:

Maintaining precise temperature control and humidity control for paper storage and the printing process is critical. Deviation from set control values can lead to inks not drying, paper sticking together or becoming brittle and snapping, all of which jeopardises printing production.

In addition to environmental controls, Facility 1st and AE Smith delivered a solution that also monitors and limits the Electrical Peak Demand. Electricity is one of the largest costs in printing and the facility is charged based on their 'Peak Demand' usage. The Facility 1st solution helps H&WT keep their Peak Demand below a set value generating significant cost savings.

Melbourne Cricket Ground

Redeveloped in time for the 2006 Commonwealth Games to seat more than 100,000 spectators, the MCG is now one of the largest sporting stadiums in the world. With its renowned atmosphere, history of grand finals and test matches, the MCG is a sporting arena that has commanded the affection of generations since 1853.

Integrated Facility 1st/AE Smith solution:

Installing over 560 Auto-Matrix controllers, Facility 1st and AE Smith ensures MCG sport fans enjoying the amenities provided by the 180+ corporate boxes, 16 dining rooms, 10 bars, 157 cool rooms and freezers, 6 chillers and boilers can worry about the game and not the temperature of their beverages, bathrooms or boxes.

Public Records Office of Victoria
Victorian Archives

One of the few facilities trusted by other countries with their priceless artifacts, the Victorian Archives of the Public Record Office of Victoria houses paintings, artwork and records that are vital to the preservation of historical works from around the world.

Temperature and humidity control is vital to the preservation of items stored in this facility. The smallest control failure could potentially damage or even destroy delicate treasures.

Integrated Facility 1st/AE Smith solution:

Partnering with the Victorian Archives, Facility 1st and AE Smith delivered an environmental solution that included 210+ Auto-Matrix controllers that maintain stringent temperature and humidity requirements, 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year, in critical areas of the facility.

The precise control delivered by the Auto-Matrix system is also used to slowly acclimatise works of art to the ambient conditions of the display facility. This painstakingly slow process exposes delicate works to new environmental conditions over a long period of time. Reliable control and measurement is essential to accomplishing a smooth transition.
