First Year Apprentice A Fast Learner

It seems AE Smith Melbourne Service employee Travis Millar’s skills aren’t confined exclusively to the workplace. The young apprentice refrigeration and air conditioning technician has recently qualified and been selected to compete in the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals 2010 in Muro Leccese, Italy – one of the world’s pre-eminent international Go Karting championships

A competitive Go Karter for more than nine years, Travis will be among some 250 competitors at the annual event, which runs 14 – 21 November. And while he says his ultimate ambition is to take out the Championships, this year it is all about focusing on a strong finish.

“I’d be rapt to finish in the top ten, but practically I think Top 15 would really be a great achievement,” Travis said.

Organisers say the basic intention of the RMC Grand Finals is to apply the Olympic spirit to an international semi-professional kart racing series. Each year competitors from more than 50 countries across five continents can qualify for the annual Grand Final event.

Australia is normally competitive in the sport, and would expect to finish in the top 20 countries.

AE Smith Melbourne Service Manager, Peter Ferguson said the achievement of qualifying alone was a testament to Travis’s commitment, an attribute he has brought with him in joining AE Smith.

“We wish Travis all the best for the upcoming championships,” Peter said.

“As a company, AE Smith encourages all of our employees to participate in sporting activities and interests outside of work – it creates a good work/life balance which makes for happier and more effective employees,” he adds.

AE Smith’s Travis Millar won the Rotax Pro Tour Championships in Canberra recently.
