The Government's Greenhouse Friendly initiative places strict requirements on Greenfleet by independently verifying:

- Greenfleet's approach to forest planning
- Greenfleet's estimates of carbon taken up by the forests
- The security and survivial of the forests that Greenfleet plants

The initiative also places particular emphasis on 'additionality'; that is that the planting would not have occurred without Greenfleet's contributions on behalf of supporters like AE Smith to help reduce greenhouse gases. Combined with this is Greenfleet's commitment to biodiverse, native tree planting that helps to reduce salinity and soil erosion and provides habitat for native animal species.
