Congratulations Mark from all your AE Smith friends and colleagues on achieving 30 years service

“I never originally planned to become a general manager, but the great support and opportunities to progress means you can do well,” says Mark.

While Mark sought out extra business study opportunities to help his development into management roles, he also sites the positive culture of AE Smith and guidance from mentors such as Mike Mulherin (GM Mackay) for his career progression.

“I’ve always admired the leaders in the business and the support within AE Smith is pretty special,” comments Mark.

Since starting with company as a sheet metal apprentice in 1977, Mark has worked his way through a full range of roles - from roof plumbing, stores, purchasing, administration and sales to Townsville General Manager (GM) and now GM of AE Smith Service in Brisbane. In all Mark’s been a GM for the last eight years.

While 30 years at the same company has seen him witness vast changes and groundbreaking projects, Mark believes the people he’s met along the way are the highlights.

“I’ve certainly seen construction work change tremendously as well as simply how we run an office, but the different people I’ve been fortunate enough to work with is the most rewarding part of the last 30 years at AE Smith,” Mark adds.

And for those looking to follow in Mark’s footsteps and work their way “from the ground up”, he offers simple advice:

“Set your sights high and remember that people will always recognise hard work.”
