Engineering Manager Melbourne

For AE Smith’s Engineering Manager, Peter Kinsella, there’s never been a more interesting time to be in the industry

“The building services industry is facing a significant shift in focus from lowest price tendered work to projects that consider efficiency and sustainability – it’s exciting to be at the coalface,” comments Peter Kinsella.

At a time when finding ways to reduce water and energy use are firmly on the national agenda, Kinsella enjoys the opportunities to influence how the building services industry can reduce its impact on the environment.

“We’re now working with clients very early in the piece and developing designs into a workable project – not only addressing energy and water efficiency but other aspects including the greater environmental impact,
Green Star ratings and a consideration of the long term operating costs and maintenance requirements for buildings” adds Peter.

Peter has been with AE Smith for over 10 years, moving his way from Senior Engineer to progress to the role of Engineering Manager, leading a team of seven engineers.

During that time, Peter has added a few impressive strings to his bow to complement his Honours Degree in Building Services Engineering, including becoming an
accredited Green Star Professional, NEBB supervisor and a director of ARBS.

In April this year, Peter was honoured with the
appointment to Regional Chairman of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) of Australia & New Zealand.

“I’m very proud to be appointed in this role which provides an amazing opportunity to represent the building services profession and help contribute to the evolution of quality building design, where the building envelope and the building services are considered from day one.” comments Peter.

As the international professional body for the building services profession,
CIBSE has a membership of nearly 19 000 in 80 countries.
