Putting Safety 1st Sets New Company Record

Putting Safety 1st Sets New Company Record - AE Smith

26 Mar 2008

A new safety milestone has been reached throughout AE Smith with the achievement of 100 LTI (Lost Time Incident) Free Days across all Australian and New Zealand operations.

“It’s the first time since company records have been kept that we have achieved greater than the 100 LTI Free Day milestone,” comments National Safety Manager, Danny O’Reilly.

“Thanks to a heightened awareness of injury and incident potential, teams across the company are truly demonstrating that we are putting Safety 1st,” he adds.

“In particular, the branches at Victoria and Perth Service, along with our Corporate Team have all achieved greater than 500 concurrent LTI free days, with Tasmania Construction and Facility 1st both having passed the 1000 LTI Free Day milestone!

Whilst incidents have been reduced by more than half compared to this time two years ago, Danny warns about becoming complacent:

“Our injury history is currently showing that sprains and lacerations are by far the biggest offenders in the AE Smith workplace.”

“We’ve become very good at recognising the potential for incidents and at analysing why incidents have happened - however we must now develop a heightened awareness of the impact that our behaviour has on our safety, and it’s contribution to our incidents and injuries,” adds Danny.

In order address the Company target of
Zero Harm to all parties the next phase of Safety 1st training and education will focus on the behavioural influences in relation to risk assessment and hazard management.
