| It’s not often a Business Development Manger really puts his money where his mouth is. But Antoni Pisa, from Melbourne’s AE Smith Service team, has recently designed and built his own sustainable residence that’s showing his customers he really does “walk the green talk”. “In my working life I talk to customers about being energy efficient and reducing their impact on the environment – so I was very keen to prove that it can be achieved on a personal level,” says Antoni. And Antoni has not only created a unique private family residence, he’s just been awarded the 2008 Knox City Council Sustainable Development Award – beating competitors that included Swinburne University’s National Centre of Sustainability. Taking two years of design work and 12 months for construction, the four bedroom three bathroom family home features a raft of energy and water reduction initiatives that’s clearly set a benchmark in sustainable private homes. Features include a 23,000 litre underground water tank; a heat recovery system in the roof space; an experimental air to ground heat exchange; a high thermal mass with orientation to winter sun and summer shading; solar hot water as well as double glazed windows.
