Caring for a seriously ill child is difficult, but Ronald McDonald House makes it easier. Ronald McDonald House® is the cornerstone program of Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) and is a home-away-from-home for families with a seriously ill child undergoing treatment.

Located near women’s and children’s hospitals, there are 13 Ronald McDonald Houses around Australia providing low cost accommodation for over 6,000 families every year.

Joining other corporate supporters, AE Smith provides pro bono air conditioning services and maintenance for Houses in Perth, Melbourne (Monash), Sydney (Westmead) and Townsville – helping in a small way to reduce operating costs for the Houses and ensuring each House is kept cool in summer and warm and cosy in winter.

Ronald McDonald Houses receive a portion of their capital and operational funding from RMHC. The rest of the money needed to keep these Houses running is raised locally by the Houses themselves. They rely on donations and support from individuals, corporate organisations, McDonald’s owner operators and local and regional communities. Everyone has the chance to help out and every donation is gratefully received.

“We pride ourselves on providing a home-away-from-home for families who are facing what is often the greatest challenge of their lives,” says Alison Salmond, House Executive Officer at Ronald McDonald House Perth, located near Princess Margaret Hospital for Children.

“Making the House as comfortable as possible with the help of supporters like AE Smith is a very big part of this goal,” she adds.

AE Smith’s CEO Andrew Permezel believes providing pro bono services to Ronald McDonald House is a way of fostering the organisation’s strong family values. The special relationship means the Houses supported by AE Smith will no longer receive bills for air conditioning service and maintenance, saving up to $10,000 every year.

“We hope in some small way our support increases their capacity to care for sick kids and their families and makes their stay a little more comfortable,” comments Andrew.

“This is AE Smith’s primary community partnership and we continue to support them on a pro bono basis because we have tremendous admiration for the fantastic work of Ronald McDonald House,” he adds.
